Super Mario Bros on the Wii eliminates the competition

Posted by Oglesby | Video Games | Wednesday 20 January 2010 4:24 pm

Modern Warfare 2 has sold 10 million units solidifying that a good franchise dominates the competition. However, as MW2 was released, another well known franchise was released around the same time; New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Which to date has sold 3 million copies and become the fastest selling game in Japan according to Famitsu.

If you include the 4 million sold in  North America,  3 million sold in  Europe, 3 million, and half a million plus sold in Australia and the rest of the world sales surpass MW2 and set the stage for Mario and Luigi to sit up high on their golden throne to admire the peasants and watch as others try to take their spot as “The Best Selling Game”.

Todd Bishop over at TechFlash reports that Microsoft is talking with Disney to begin streaming ESPN content on the XBOX 360. This coupled with Netflix and a Roku or Boxee box just about eliminates the need for cable.

Pixel Junk Monsters (Review)

Posted by Oglesby | Video Games | Sunday 2 August 2009 9:31 pm

Game play in PixelJunk Monsters borrows similarities from various tower defense titles. The objective is to build defense towers along the enemies’ path to keep them from reaching the base. Several small creatures dwell at the base. For each enemy that survives the defense towers and reaches the hut, one creature is killed. If all creatures are wiped out, the level is failed.

I stumbled upon the demo for PixelJunk Monsters one night while downloading random demos for the PS3, and to be honest it sat unplayed and uninstalled for sometime. Then the other night I decided to give it a shot and discoved a gem. Well, calling it a gem may be a little over the top for a tower defense game considering the hundreds of them that exist.

The demo allows for you to play the tutorial stage as well as the first “easy path” stage, and that’s all it took before I became hooked, broke down, and spent the $9.99 for the full version. The game provides many colorful maps and requires a heavy concentration on strategy. This is not a tower defense game you will get through by just dumb luck. As you begin the game (I continued from the demo) you have 4 base towers (arrows, cannon, anti-air gun, and the ice tower) and there are 5 other towers that you can unlock.

The games difficulty increases greatly with each stage so expect to lose alot of the little creatures at first. Also the one disappointment I have had so far is that when you work to unlock the special towers that you must re-unlock them on each level…every time you play that level. This can be quite the pain but at the same time if you started each level with the high powered towers it wouldn’t be much of a challenge.

The game also includes a co-op as well as challenges. If you own a PS3 and like strategy based games that you won’t beat in a weekend then I would highly recommend to check out PixelJunk Monsters (Available on the PlayStation Network).

First, I will start this off by saying that I am a fan of music games (Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc.) and I am also a fan of the Beatles. I was extremely skeptical of this game, but this trailer is getting me excited. The game ships on 9/9/09, but here’s the trailer, then we will discuss further.

Ideas for teh Future

Posted by MK2Fac3 | Comics,Entertainment,Geektastic,Movies,Video Games | Friday 29 May 2009 10:53 pm

Hey guys,

As I mentioned on Twitter, I have some ideas going on, it was posted after I asked about our listeners liking video games. So, without further ado..

Here’s the deal. At most conventions, E3 and Sand Diego ComiCon to be specific, they allow press passes to members of the media, and since both of these conventions cover what we cover in our Podcast, we figured what better place for us to be! (amirite?!?)

So, we mentioned this before, and I’ll bring it up again, we would like to make a Pay Pal account that would allow for donations to get us the money together so that we can make it to these conventions. For the record, we would of course, live stream from our hotel rooms and even Skype people in from the floor of the convention hall, providing there is decent wifi, with whatever Skype program is available to us (right now, Skype via iPhone) with anyone that has questions about what we are seeing and what games are playable (E3).

Again, we do whatever we can for you guys and we would love to be able to do this, but we really need to make the site at least seem like it is generating traffic. :)

So, let us know in the comments section what you think about this idea.

Thanks guys!
